The District Council of Cleve strongly supports and encourages not-for-profit community groups in achieving their goals, developing infrastructure and investing in the district.
Council receives many requests for financial assistance from community groups and organisations. The purpose of the Community Grants Program is to provide funding in an effective and equitable manner. This is based on the individual merits of each request to address priority community needs.
The aim of these grants is to encourage, develop and support local projects of a community, cultural, environmental, recreational, or sporting nature which demonstrate broad-based benefit to all the residents of the district.
Since the commencement of the Grants Program $387,051.42 (2008-2024) has been awarded to community groups through the Community Grants Program. These grants are available on an annual basis and funded via Council contribution and profits from the Community Cropping Program.
Community Cropping Program
Council owned community land is cropped annually to not only utilise otherwise vacant land but also to exercise considered land management practices. This community project is conducted via a council selected permitted Grower and Council approved agronomist to ensure best practice is always exercised. The revenue generated from this project covers all operational and input expenditures before the net profit is then obtained by the Council and aggregated into the annual Community Grant Program.
Community Grant Funding of up to $10,000 is available to not-for-profit groups within the District Council of Cleve. Larger projects may be considered by Council. Please see eligibility and application requirements below.
Eligibility
- Not for profit and non-government entities.
- Incorporated groups.
- Club or group operating/conducting business in the District Council of Cleve.
- Active Operations - Must have been in operation for at least one year prior to the grant application submission date, demonstrating active engagement in community activities.
- Health Check - Organisations must be able to demonstrate various aspects of governance, management, operational practices and premises compliance.
- Financial Transparency - Must demonstrate financial transparency, including the submission of audited financial statements or financial reports to the council.
- Community Engagement - Must provide evidence of active engagement with the local community, membership, including participation in community events, outreach programs, and stakeholder consultations.
- Alignment with Council Priorities - Proposed projects or initiatives must align with the strategic priorities and objectives outlined by the council, demonstrating a clear contribution to community development, wellbeing, and sustainability.

- Please check that your project meets the eligibility criteria – contact the District Council of Cleve if you are unsure or have any questions.
- Ensure all questions are answered clearly. If not, your application may be ineligible.
