VOLUNTEERING

VOLUNTEERING

Volunteerism is an excellent method of community engagement, contribution and development. Volunteers undertake unpaid work across a range of industries. There are thousands of volunteers in Local Government in South Australia and hundreds of paid staff who co-ordinate and manage their volunteer activities.

The District Council of Cleve shall ensure that the volunteer’s place of work is conducive to preserving their health, safety and general well-being.

Council aims to ensure that:

  • Council’s volunteers provide a direct link between the Community and Council
  • Council volunteers are identified as “Workers” under the SA Work Health and Safety Act and Regulations 2012 and have the same rights and responsibilities as paid workers.
  • Council has a duty to ensure that the requirements under the SA Work Health and Safety Act and Regulations, Codes of Practices, other legislation and Council WHS Policies and Procedures extend to and include the activities of volunteers.

Considering becoming a volunteer?

Volunteers play a vital role in assisting our community to thrive. The success of our community relies on the contribution of all of our workers. Volunteers undertake varied roles and contribute in ways that support and build a healthy community, in which we are all valued.

A volunteer is a person who:

  • Benefits the community and themselves by participating in volunteer programs
  • Provides their services of their own free will
  • Does not receive any monetary reward (reimbursements of out of pocket expenses are not regarded as monetary reward)
  • Undertakes activities which complement, but do not replace the services provided by paid staff.

If you would like to become a volunteer please feel free to view our Volunteer Management Procedure and Council's Code of Conduct for Volunteers.
