Informal Gatherings

The Local Government Act 1999 enables Council’s to hold informal gatherings or discussions of members of the Council or committee and staff for planning, briefings, training sessions, workshops or social gatherings to encourage informal communication between members or between members and staff.

Informal gatherings provide a valuable opportunity to enhance Council decision-making processes by providing opportunities for Council Members to become better informed on issues and seek further clarification.  These gatherings, are not intended to be used or perceived as a replacement for full debate decision making at Council meetings or Council Committee meetings. No decisions can be made at these gatherings and no formal minutes are recorded.

For more information on informal gatherings, please see Council's Informal Gatherings Policy.
